2009 D-Day Celebration
On June 6th, 2009, there was a D-Day celebration at our local museum. The museum is placed on the grounds of a glider training facility that was active during WWII. Today, it is home to one of the few, if only, remaining US glider plane in existance. Full mannequins and weaponry are found in the museum. In celebration of this historic day there were reenactors of the 1st Army Division and US paratroopers attired as they would have been during WWII. I was able to handle various types of weaponry, talk with veterans of the conflict and talk with fellow collector's of militaria. It was a good day.
Here I am handling a Thompson submachinegun. Unfortunately, it was unloaded! ;)
